Meet the founder
Naomi “Nickie” Kuren, MBA
Founder of Nickie Marketing & Design.
I went to college never expecting to own my own business. My grandfather and mother had their own businesses for as long as I can remember, but the idea of running mine never came to me. During my college years I worked with children and at a banquet hall, and while earning my Associate of Arts in Communication I took classes in filmmaking and broadcasting. I was always drawn to those subjects, since I grew up taking pictures and posting YouTube videos.
While I was in school for my Bachelors of Arts in Communication and Business, I took a class that really piqued my interest. We went to New York City every week to meet with nonprofits, and our class project was to develop a marketing plan for our charity. Mine was The Bowery Mission, a homeless shelter in the city.
As graduation loomed, I still felt stuck. I knew I had no intention of working a corporate 9 to 5, so what does every nervous graduate do? They go to grad school. During my MBA courses I learned how businesses really work. Cool, but I wanted more. Just when I was about to lose hope, my capstone project made all the lights go off: create a marketing plan for a small business. After I completed it, I started onboarding my own clients. Now our team works with a variety of business owners who keep the creativity flowing.
